Google's rules for asking for reviews

What is allowed and what can get reviews removed.

Google removes reviews, and can restrict your profile, if reviews are collected the wrong way. RepOcean is built to keep you on the right side of the rules.

Do

  • Ask every customer, happy or not. Honest reviews are more convincing anyway.
  • Make it easy with your review link or QR code.
  • Reply to reviews, good and bad, politely.

Don’t

  • Offer anything in return, such as discounts, gifts or entries into a draw.
  • Only ask happy customers, or send unhappy ones somewhere else first (“review gating”).
  • Write reviews yourself, or ask staff, friends or family to review you.
  • Collect many reviews on one device, such as a tablet at your counter. Let customers use their own phones.
  • Pay anyone for reviews.

How RepOcean helps

  • Everyone gets the same review link. Your review page always shows the Google button to every visitor.
  • Customers can unsubscribe, and nobody is asked twice by the same request.
  • Private feedback is an extra option, never a replacement for the Google button.
